What We’re Looking For

At Northern, our most valuable asset is our team of hard-working, dedicated employees. The HR Coordinator is responsible for supporting Northern’s HR strategy and growth. In this role, you will report to the HR Manager and will support the growth and development of our team. You will also be responsible for leading the company’s recruitment efforts. This includes but is not limited to planning career fairs, networking events, and managing partnerships with post-secondary institutions. The HR Coordinator is also responsible for supporting and providing guidance related to Northern policies and programs covering HR strategy, delivery, and employee relations.

Knowledge and understanding of an agency environment and experience working at an organization with a strong company culture is an asset and will best support you in your role.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day full-cycle recruitment efforts, including; proactively seeking out passive candidates, job posting creation, phone screens, in-person interviews, coordination and collaboration with hiring team, and extending offers of employment to selected candidates.
  • Actively coordinate Northern’s internship program including candidate evaluation, onboarding, high-level program structure, and partnership with relevant post-secondary institutions.
  • Lead the new hire orientation and onboarding process for all new employees, including creation of new hire welcome packages, Day 1 onboarding and coordination of new hire training schedules with the department managers.
  • Manage the administration of our employee health & dental benefits program, including new employee enrollments, member updates, etc.
  • Actively participate in Northern’s Joint Health & Safety Committee, including certification and monthly committee tasks and activities.
  • Support Northern’s employee base by providing support, guidance and interpretation of policy and procedures, as needed.
  • Support the HR Manager with the creation, rollout and ongoing management of HR programs, as well as the continuous improvement of existing programs.
  • Other ad hoc administrative duties, as required.

Knowledge, Education & Experience Required

  • CHRP designation (or in progress) is considered an asset.
  • Undergraduate University Degree or College Diploma in a related field (eg. Business, Organizational Leadership, Psychology, Communications, Human Resources, or comparative area of study).
  • 1 - 3 years of human resources experience, with a focus in recruitment and selection.
  • Experience in recruiting tech talent and hiring for a rapidly growing business is considered an asset.
  • Proven ability to apply creativity, innovation and resourcefulness to daily work.
  • Knowledgeable in Canadian employment legislation and human resources processes and best practices, particularly as it applies to recruitment and selection.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational management skills.
  • Excellent priority setting skills with the flexibility and adaptability to respond to shifting business needs.
  • Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment along with the aptitude to prioritize multiple responsibilities and deadlines.
  • Demonstrates high integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
